THEMATIC THEMATICS STAMP COLLECTING.
Thematics are stamps collected with pictures or topic of the same theme. e.g. Cars Cats Dogs trains etc,. Many collectors browse through books/stock-books and pick out such items, based on a common interest they may have. Take for instance trains, although many stamps have been issued on this theme. It is worth noting that many of these others stamps are printed by private firms, purely to make money from the collector. These have never been postally used (though cancelled to order) may appear genuine stamps, but are not. Many firms issue such stamps through magazine subscriptions. Please be aware that this form of collecting is not always a sound investment, and purely for pleasure.
A popular theme is the Penny Black Stamp. This has been used on many occasions. One such issue is The Sir Roland Hill Omnibus commonwealth and world issue to celebrate his death and achievements on the introduction of the world's first postage stamp. See the pictures below for some examples.
Many thematic stamp collectors will go to stamp fairs and brouse through a dealers counter books and pick stamps to their particular theme. These stamps are usually very cheap, so you can easily amas a good collection, Use a stockbook, because printed albums are not usually available for thematic collecting though a plain springback album is fine.
When it is time to part with your collection they are not of great value and this will be reflected in the price realised when selling the collection.
